Self Evaluation of My Academic year (2009)

Introduction

When we approach to the end of the academic year is important that everyone analyze which have been the results. I study Sociology and I'm in my fourth academic year, my last year to get my degree. Now I'm closer to obtain my academic qualification and after that, to entering to the working world as a sociologist.

My self-evaluation of this academic year includes the evaluation of my learning and my academic performance. In general terms, this year has been intense, useful and beneficial; of a lot of readings and investigation works. We have applied what we have learned during the entire career and my academic performance has been satisfactory.

Body

The self-evaluation of the academic year have principal points to explain: these are the learning obtained and the results in my academic performance.

In relation with my learning, this year I learned many things like new subjects, new strategies of teamwork with my classmates, and new challenges in labor practice. The topics and curses this year have been extremely interesting and I have reaffirmed my liking for sociology's themes.
Teamwork has been crucial in this year, because much of the work and test has been in group assessments. It is not easy to work as a team, but the learning is very significant academically. Another learning obtained was the fact of working with institutions as “SENAME” and NGOs “ENMARCHA” in the area of public policy. It was really a very rewarding experience.

With regard to my academic performance, in this year it was generally satisfactory, because in some classes I was excellent and in other subjects my performance was equal or better than average. I was not endangering any class because of my grades. This auspicious scene kept me with anxiety but after all, relaxed. It is for this reason that the "balance" of my academic year was in my favor. My performance make me very happy because all the effort realized of obtaining those results have been worthwhile.

Conclusion

When I got into the university, I never thought that I would get the last year to achieve a degree. My objective of being a professional and being a sociologist is getting closer, thanks to everything I've learned during the career and especially in this year; all that because of my effort and the support of my family. I am very happy that all these years of study and sacrifice can be translated into academic, professional, and personal success. The academic year 2009 was an excellent year, I learned a lot, I had new experiences and I managed to overcome several challenges with acceptable performance.

Challenges in your discipline

There are important challenges in my discipline (Sociology). There are differents areas where is possible to do changes for improvement, but is all a challenge.

In the area of Technology, Sociology haven`t subjetcs in of carrear related which this area. But Sociology can since its vision to be a support for other discipline like science or engineering. For example when public transport Transantiago started, sociology would can to have helped to resolved the problem, because the problem affected sociaty. The challenge in this area is open the door to others disciplines as Sociology to this areas dominated for science or engineering

In the area of Social Matters Sociology have important challenges because this discipline can to do public policy for take part in differents problems like poor, delinquency, inequality, etc. About public policy the Social Matters can improve. The problem is diagnosed, later the sociologist with your team try to resolve the problem.

In the area of Education Sociology the challenge is huge.

In general Sociology is a discipline with much responsability in Sociaty and have many challenges for to do.

A Piece of News

A week ago, in San Bernardo, where I live, it occur three deaths and a accident in the same day. I heard this piece of many pleople of my city, my mother, my sister, my uncle, all people` San Bernardo spoke about tragity.

The deaths start in the morning. First a teenager died his girl friend and after he commited suicide. It was the first two deaths registred on the day. I don`t knew the causes of felony.

The other death was: a woman died run over for transantiago bus.

This death caused many impact in the community and a sensation horrible. I imagined to see this tragity, it was terrible. I willn`t forget.

In the nigth occur a car accident. The accident block the called "Gran Avenida". There are three fireman company, many police and a lot people looking the "show".

The car accident was caused by driver. He was drunk.

I coult to observate the accident a few, when I returned to my home in the transantiago bus.

This car accident affect my community because the street was congested and the people delayed to arrive their homes.

I would like to hear read or watch on TV a piece of news that said "Decrease the poor in Africa", because Africa is the continent most poor.

Improving your Faculty Facilities

The current situation in my faculty in general, in my opinion, is relatively good, but there are aspects that need improvement.

For example: In infrastructure, the bathroom is dirty and never there are toilete paper, the library is small, the classroom aren`t the best, always the computer classroom is full, etc. In Education, some teachers are excelent, but other haven`t all characteristics of good teacher, the subjetcs are very interesting in general, but some subjetcs can improvement.

The first steps to dealing with this situation is improvement in aspect educational.

I would resolve this situation, evaloating the curricula of different carrear, evaloating the labor of teachers in the classroom and evaloating the curriculums og diferents academics this faculty.

The real benefits of these improvement is for all students, because we will have a better education. The real impact of these improvement is better profesionals for laboral market.

The next steps to dealing with this situation is improvement in aspect infrastructure.

I would resolve this situation creating places betters for to study, for example to do a bigger library and bigger computer classroom. Finally, I would improve the bathroom. No more dirty bathroom, plis.

The real benefits of these improvement is for all comunity educative. The real impact of these improvement are to improve space to live.

Election Day

I am registered to vote. I registered in this year because I have the age and I want participate in the politics decisions of Chile. The vote is only way to say what I think.

My opinion electoral campaings is a way for to have power and for have power the politicians do anything to reach . Electoral campaings are a fight for the power.

I thing that a person running for president must have qualities as leader, pasionate, honest, energetic, educated, commited, loyal with the people and with country.

Personality, I don`t consider to become a politician. When I was a child I wanted to become a politician, but, actually the career politcs isn`t in my life`s proyect.

If I work in a ministry of the government, I would like to work in "Departament of the Interior", because I desing the public policy and I would like to intervine in differents social context.

The five problems that require an immediate solution in Chile: public transport, the poor, the delinquency, inequality in oportunities in educational system and mentally disable and handi capped people discrimination.

Summary from a career-related article from The Guardian

The subjetcs of teenage mothers is complicated. There are many opinions and ideas different and contradictories. In the article "Second thoughts: supporting teenage mothers" written by Ofra Koffman, who is a visiting fellow at the Centre for the Study of Invention and Social Process, Goldsmiths, London University, and a member of the History & Policy network, shows how this teme is seen in the past and actually.

Since moral and conservative ideas the debate on teenage parenthood enphasize that teenage mothers are delinquents who should by disciplined and who became pregnant out of wedlock were reckless individuals in need of "rehabilitation". Since the Psychology teenage mothers were not fully grown-up psychologically and needed professional support and protection and, since arguments more contemporary, the teenage mothers are vulnarable children who should be protected and also they have that take responsibility for their actions.

For government the solutions are: teenage mothers to give children in adoption, that they learn, etc. But this problem is very much complicated that those solutions.

Criminal Laws

This subjetc is very dificult and very complicated to talk when I am a viewer of problem. But, I think that capital punishment or dead punishment is not a good solution to reduce criminatity. First, because the criminal will not experience a hard and long sentence. The criminal have to pay for his faul or felony. Second, because the root of problema is not solved. Criminality is a mayor problema. It include diferents social actors and the sociaty in it whole.

The pro is that the families of victim are more satisfied and calm by seeing the criminal his dead. The cons are that the criminal does not really pay his faul and he not pay for the damage caused.
The measure should the government take to reduce criminality rates in Santiago are to change the justice sistem and that the jail is in betters conditions.

The origin of increasing criminality rates in Chile is speciality poverty and in a second level inequality oportunities, inequality in the educations and the few social networks. The people that is in social risk have more tendence to be a criminal. Their social conditions determine this called “vicious circle of criminality”.

I have never been a victim of crime or felony. I have been many lucky.
